You are the last piece of the puzzle.

You will be an essential part of four artistic experiences created by talented people from a vast network of backgrounds and disciplines here at the CSULB Theatre Arts Department. Our artists have put in months of hard work, years of training, and quite often lifetimes of passion to devise the productions you are about to see. And, YOU are the last collaborator in our process.

We urge you to grapple with, marinate in, and riff off our work before, during, and after the show.

We have put together the information below to facilitate a smooth and enjoyable experience for you, your friends, and your fellow 49ers.

Parking

The Student Virtual Permit is valid in areas designated as General Parking and all Parking Structures unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage. This permit is also valid in areas designated as Employee Parking after 5:30 p.m., and all day on weekends. During our events, parking in lot E8 (by the TA building) is available to the public for $9.

The Buildings

If your performance is at the Studio Theater, or the Players Theater, then you will want to enter through the front of the TA Building.

If your performance is at the University Theater, then you will want to go to there. From parking lot E8, walk past the TA building on the front side (the fountain will be on your left) and take a right. You will see the the University Theater building. Follow the path to the left, around the building, to reach the entrance.

The House

When we say “the house,” we generally refer to the room in which you experience the production. The lobby is the room in front of the house, where you will be able to enjoy your friends' company before and after the show. You may see the lights in the lobby flicker which means “the show will start in about five minutes.” At the end of the night, the House Manager will be available to stamp your ticket, if you need that.

Seating

  • No food or drink is allowed in the house, except for water.

  • An usher will scan the QR code on your ticket as you walk into the house.

  • Seating is usually general admission, but not always.

  • The actors sometimes make use of the aisles and the very edge of the stage. Be sure to keep your belongings tucked under your chair, clear of the walkways and playing space.

  • There is no late seating. When the show begins, the doors to the house close.

  • Most audience members keep their phone off and away throughout the show. Using a phone creates a personal spotlight for the user and the people around them. If the phone of someone nearby is distracting you, it is OK to ask them to put it away. You can also let an usher know, and they will take care of it.

Time

Information about the duration of the show can be found posted in the lobby and on your program, which you will receive as an usher scans your ticket. Sometimes there is an intermission, so you may have a short break in the middle of the performance.
